What is Mister David’s Studio?
It’s a place to experience the creative process. A place to learn to see intentionally. A place to explore and make things with friends.
Mister David’s Studio started as part of Tirana English School and as a personal artist space for David Chang. The studio is equipped with many professional pottery equipment that includes a kiln that can fire up to 1300C. The studio also has basic woodworking equipment including a scroll saw for fine woodworking, and all the necessary tools for painting in any medium. Lastly the studio is equipped with a giant work bench that can provide work spaces for 12 adults and a children’s work bench that can provide space for 10 children.
Who is Mister David?
David Chang is a gradate of Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia with a BFA in ceramics and glass. He is fascinated by how materials are formed and transformed through the human touch and their ability to convey a personal story. David is by no means a master of any material or technique but enjoys making things. After 30 years of wrestling with clay and doodling, he has finally found the WHY – it’s quite simple, to doodle and make things is to be human! In an age when everyone’s finger is glued to their phone, there is a certain joy that comes with just making things with their hands.
The name Mister David’s Studio is modelled after Mister Roger’s Neighborhood. Fred Roger cracked the code of using television as a learning tool for children. Fred was the real thing! He never sold out and kept it real. His goal was simply to reach that one child that needed a friend, and not try to go big and go viral. Fred was genuine, and he is a great inspiration to me. I hope I can use the creative process as a tool to show kids they can do amazing things because they are already amazing.
